Avoid These Twitter Mistakes To Market Effectively
September 7, 2010 SE Tactics No CommentsAs Twitter gets more and more popular, it has also become an accepted method to market your products online. If you are going to use Twitter for marketing, however, be sure to not make the errors we'll be talking about below.
When you visit a member's page on Twitter, what do you notice right away? A photo of the member is what you'd most likely notice first. When people see that your profile has a picture, it immediately separates you from the many members who remain anonymous. When people have a picture to go with your name, they will instantly trust you more. When you are promoting anything online, your credibility is your greatest asset. An authentic profile picture puts you in a different category from the people who spam Twitter every day and who don't want people to see their faces. Make sure that the picture you use is of yourself and it is clear enough. Using company or promotional pictures, or avatars will not work. Just be clear and direct in telling your followers who you are. On Twitter, you really have to make every effort to show everyone you can be trusted. This by itself may not put money in your pocket right away, but it helps in the long run. It's also important to build your reputation in your market, which a picture helps to do as people become familiar with you.
Don't commit the blunder of just hanging around expecting people to just come up and follow you. It's another thing if you're Ashton Kutcher but if you're not, then you'll have to put in regular efforts to follow people in your niche so that they follow you back. Usually when you start following someone, they instantly become a follower. This is the first step you need to take with Twitter, as you're just trying to get people to connect with you within the niche you've chosen. A good move is to look for experts within your niche, because if they ever retweet your tweets, that'll be very good for you. Therefore, Twitter can't be beat when it comes to marketing. It really offers a way to communicate with your target audience without having to wait for them to come to you. Not only that, but going out and hunting them instead of having them come to you allows you to be selective about who you put in your network.
Coming across like a corporate executive is another typical mistake made by Twitter marketers. They erroneously believe that their audience will respect them and look up to them this way. Twitter members, however, don't want to talk to corporate types, but to down to earth people they can relate to. It also gives you more flexibility when you aren't simply representing one product or company. Your followers don't use Twitter to interact with a company, so you would only lose people this way.
Overall, Twitter marketing is fairly straightforward as long as you approach it the right way and steer clear of the mistakes we've been discussing.
